The president of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, could be excommunicated from the Church for his words about the annexation of the Kyiv Metropolis by the Russian Orthodox Church and for other sins. Such a proposal in an interview with News.ru was made by Archpriest Vsevolod Chaplin.

Earlier, the President of Ukraine wrote in a microblog that the Russian Orthodox Church has no canonical rights to the Metropolis, since it received them through “illegal annexation”. He repeated this statement, when speaking before the thanksgiving prayer service on St Sofia Square in Kyiv.

“This statement is in line with his usual rhetoric. Poroshenko has long applied such a political term as “annexation” to church life,” Chaplin said.

In the opinion of the archpriest, the Patriarchate of Constantinople did not doubt the superiority of the Russian Orthodox Church over the Kyiv Metropolis for several centuries, but started talkingabout it only after receiving “commands from Washington.”

“Obviously, now a certain political expediency has emerged. The Patriarchate of Constantinople is known for secessions from the purity of faith, and one can directly say that it is no longer a church, but a political tool in the hands of the Western elites.”

He came up with a suggestion to stop feeling the “sacred awe” towards Constantinople and deny them the title of Christians. It is impossible to go to their churches because they do not have a Church and Christ, but only imitation,” says Chaplin.
