In a conversation on Radio Maria about some current events that occurred last week Bishop of Kharkiv and Zaporizhzhia of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine Stanislav Shyrokoradiuk   touched on the recent statement of the head of Roman Catholic Bishops in Ukraine, Archbishop Mieczyslaw Mokrzycki, who linked the “sin of Ukrainian nation” (before the Poles) with the war in Donbas, which caused reaction, Religion in Ukraine reports.

“If we try to understand why the Ukrainian people are suffering, let's remember the national authority, Cardinal Lubomyr Husar. He once said,” I do not know why we suffer. I even doubt if God is just. But I believe that God loves my people! If God allows this, it is the reason! He knows why, but I do not know,” the Bishop recalled the words of Lubomyr Husar. “Let us not become prophets, because it's easy to get under stones the prophets were stoned! If God allows, this is the reason! Which reason? We do not know! Maybe just we must undergo purification. Jesus Christ on the cross was as a result of others' sins, but His suffering was salutary! Maybe this suffering will be salutary for Ukraine! It is already yielding fruit! If it just did not hurt, but we have already understood that joining NATO is a good thing because they already require us true fight against corruption, the order of law, judicial reform. If not for this war, we would be well stamped, in Moscow, the West! But you cannot rebuke yourselves that our people are suffering for something specific! Every nation whom God tests has its own future! As they say, ‘God punishes the ones he loves.’ I believe that God loves our people!”
