Cross installed in place of Lenin’s statue at Svobody Square in Kharkiv removed

At this time, several police officers are keeping sentry near the monument. Neither the monument defenders nor supporters of the demolition of the monument to Lenin are present at Svobody Square. One of the webcams with a close-up view of the monument’ base is off.

On October 8 in the morning, the employees of Kharkiv City Council took photographs of a pedestal from a lifting platform. Chief architect of Kharkiv Serhiy Chechelnitsky, Director of Municipal Services Victor Kitanin and employees of the City Council were present at the site.

As reported, on September 28, a statue of Lenin was demolished at Svobody Square in Kharkiv. Mayor of Kharkiv Gennady Kernes said that Kharkiv authorities would restore the monument in the same place. On October 4, an oak cross was mounted on the pedestal of the demolished monument to Lenin at Svobody Square in Kharkiv.
