Святослав_(Шевчук).jpgThe Ukrainian Greek Catholic head disapproves of involvement of church representatives in politics. According to him, it contradicts their priestly position, Patriarch Sviatoslav said at a press conference on December 9 in Odesa.

“If the church is loyal to its natural mission, it will always be on the side of people and christ and not of the warring political forces. We always hold the position of non-interference in the political matters. The church should be the mother to everyone, both the right and the left and the centrists. We try to bring up conscious citizens who should themselves be responsible. Our people still live by the faith in a good king who will decide everything for them. This is a clear anachronism for a democratic society: in a democratic country, each citizen should himself feel responsible for his state, and the church brings them up to do so without assuming political functions by any means,” said the patriarch, reported View from Odesa.
