Mejlis calls on Ukrainians to unite efforts to stop political persecution

The Mejlis of Crimean Tatar People calls on political and civic authorities in Ukraine to unite efforts to stop political persecution, UNIAN informs.

"The resolution of the Pechersk Court of Kyiv, which was adopted during the trial, during which all members must be given equal rights in defending their positions and actions occurred after the execution, and the reaction of the Ukrainian society, international institutions and officials indicate a violation of the rule of law and demonstrate the political goals of Yulia Tymoshenko’s case," reads the statement.

"The Mejlis constantly defends fundamental principles of democracy and civil society, human rights and freedoms, and calls all political and civic authorities in Ukraine to unite their efforts to stop persecution for political reasons," reads the statement.

The Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar People or parliament (Crimean Tatar: Qırımtatar Milliy Meclisi) is an central executive body of Curultay of Crimean Tatars. Since 1998, Mustafa Dzhmilev is the Mejlis's 33rd chairman.
