Mejlis Chairman Mustafa Dzhemilev has called the construction of new church in Simferopol near the future memorial to the victims of deportation of the Crimean Tatar a provocation.

Mejlis Chairman Mustafa Dzhemilev has called the construction of new church in Simferopol near the future memorial to the victims of deportation of the Crimean Tatar a provocation.

"I heard about it and it causes great indignation among the Crimean Tatars. The place for the monument to the victims of deportation, absolutely is not a good place for the church. Christians were not deported! It is very unwise to do such a thing and it looks a bit provocative," he said.

He said that the official attitude toward the church construction the Mejlis will express later, but "nothing good will come of this."

The church is intended to be built near the railway station in Simferopol in Lenin’s Park
