KYIV — The standing committee of the Kyiv City Council on matters of culture and tourism did not support the initiative of the city council to evict painters from the workshops in the Kyiv Cave Monastery and to pass the buildings to the monastery. According to the head of the committee, Oleksandr Bryhinets, it is proposed to take away the workshops from the artists without providing them with other places to work.

According to him, the committee was approached by the painters of the association Lavra Workshops with the request not to support the transfer of the buildings to the monastery. The art intellectuals were supported by all the members of committee regardless of party affiliations, reports UNIAN

Bryhinets expressed hope that representatives of certain political forces in the session hall will not propose to vote contrary to the regulations for the decision, which was not supported by the special committee on matters of culture, "as usually happens during the consideration of issues regarding the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate)."
