The Commission on the Observance of Religious Freedoms United States has analyzed how these freedoms are respected in Russia, and, as a result, suggested that Russia be included in the list of nominees for sanctions. The Americans remembered the religious situation in Donbas and the ban on Jehovah's Witnesses.

Victor Yelenskyy, MP of Ukraine (People's Front faction), President of the Ukrainian Association of Religious Freedom, wrote it on Facebook page on the community page "For the Unified Local Church".

While in the United States, during the prayer breakfast, Yelenskyy had a conversation with a high profile politician, US Special Envoy for Religious Freedom, Sam Brownbeck, and had the opportunity to address the venerable public.

“A bit of history. In October 1998, the United States unanimously adopted the law. Under this law, America has set a Religious Freedom Commission, which consists of three representatives of both parties and three under the president's quota. There is also an ambassador-at-large, subordinated directly to the US Secretary of State. According to the provisions, every US ambassador must write a report on the state of religious freedoms in his home country and, based on this report, will create a general report, which the Secretary of State will present in September-October,” said the MP.

According to Yelenskyy, in countries where the state of religious freedoms is of particular concern, the US president is obliged to impose on the officials a series of sanctions: to restrict loans, to ban entry into the United States. It is believed that if a person or country violates religious freedom, then it is able to violate absolutely all the freedoms. The law has been in place for almost 20 years.

“So, on the list of nominees for sanctioning violations of religious freedom, Russia has been proposed. Jehovah's Witnesses are forbidden there, it controls in a known way the situation in Donbas,” said the president of the Ukrainian Association of Religious Freedom.

“In this commission, they are very well acquainted with our religious situation, they know the names of those murdered in Donbas,” Viktor Yelenskyy added.
