Peace must be just and real, not an imitation. Patriarch Sviatoslav, the Head of the UGCC, has told about it in his interview to Tsenzor.net, the Ukrainian media. The opinion of First Hierarch is particularly relevant today, when, despite the fact that a ceasefire was declared on July 21, the enemy in the East attacks Ukrainian positions again, using prohibited weapons, Ukrainian soldiers die again.

In a video message (after several meetings of Zelenskyi with religious leaders, the video message appeared- editor's note), I have tried to explain how we understand the concept of peace. Peace cannot mean surrender and acceptance of any aggressor's terms. Then it is an imitation of peace, and the consequences will be even worse than war. For peace to be real, it must be just. Otherwise, it is a simple change in the way our people are hurt. History shows us that appeasement of the aggressor fuels his appetites even more. It is very important to talk about the pain that our people have and that even when we negotiate with the aggressor, we will remember the eyes of the mother who has lost her son in the war. We must be the voice of the people who have suffered. As long as there is no honour and amends made for the wrong done to them, what kind of justice can there be? Therefore, responding to the request of Mr Zelenskyi, I tried to speak on behalf of those people who are hurt by this war, and to explain what the real peace should be like," - said the head of the UGCC.
