Church dedicated to warriors fallen in eastern Ukraine to be built in Dnipro

In Dnipro, a church in honor of the soldiers fallen in eastern Ukraine is planned to be built. The construction project was approved at the last meeting of the city planning council. This is reported by Dniprohrad citing Dnipro Vechirniy.

The church will be called The Church Dedicated to the Icon of the Mother of God “The Invincible Wall”. It is yet unknown where exactly it will be located. The Dnipro Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church-Kyiv Patriarchate selected a square behind the monument to Taras Shevchenko (opposite the Theater of Ukrainian Drama).

However, the architects rejected the location: in their opinion, it is too narrow and secular-styled. In addition, it will block the passage and put an end to the idea of ​​extending the Theater Boulevard, turning it into a long pedestrian street.

So, within some ten days, an initiative group of architects should find an alternative place to place the church. If not, it will be erected on Voskresenskaya Street, as it was planned from the beginning.

The icon of the same name located in St. Sophia Cathedral of Kyiv has inspired the initiators to choose the name of the church in Dnipro.

According to the project, the temple will be diverging from the customary canons. Two strict cubic volumes with small windows will be joined by a dome. The modernized version was first approved by the diocese of the UOC-KP. Inside, there will be a memorial museum, on the second floor - a terrace, to which one may get by elevator. And in front of the church there will be an area for celebrations and worshiping outdoors.

The ground floor will accommodate during the prayer services some 200 people, and the entire area will occupy 400 sq m. The cubic temple will appear in the city already next year. The only question is the exact location.
