President Poroshenko signs law in support of volunteers

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed a law that will facilitate the development of the volunteer movement in Ukraine and improve the quality of volunteer help.

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko has signed a law that will facilitate the development of the volunteer movement in Ukraine and improve the quality of volunteer help.

This was reported by the presidential press service on Monday, Ukrinform informs.

"The Law No. 246-8 as of March 5, 2015 regulates social relations associated with the implementation of volunteer activities in Ukraine. The main objective of the bill is to ensure the effective regulation of legal relations that can arise during the implementation of volunteer activities in Ukraine, promote the development of the volunteer movement in Ukraine and improve the quality of volunteer help," reads the statement.

The law defines the directions of volunteer activities and the terms "volunteering" and "volunteer," removes restrictions for volunteering organizations and institutions, clarifies the rights and responsibilities of volunteers and the organizations and institutions that engage volunteers, explains the features of recovery of costs associated with the provision of volunteer assistance, and other changes that will contribute to the development of volunteer activities.

The law also introduces amendments with respect to voluntary life and health insurance of volunteers for the period of volunteer aid by the organizations and institutions that engage volunteers.
