The Maltese Aid Service in Ivano-Frankivsk announced the start of the charity campaign Saint Nicholas Visits Orphans in 2013. Nearly 1,800 letters to St. Nicholas are waiting for support. Such charities take place in many cities of Ukraine.

The head of the Maltese Aid Service, Roman Yaruchyk, said that starting November 1 as part of the charity campaign Saint Nicholas Visits Orphans everyone will be able to support a letter addressed to St. Nicholas written by a child from an orphanage.

The event Saint Nicholas Visits Orphans begins long before St. Nicholas Day.

Children from orphanages write letters to St. Nicholas, asking for gifts and share their true feeling. From the children's letters, one has a glimpse into the world of the child, what hurts him or her and what she or he needs. Children are happy to write about what they like, their favorite school subjects, their dreams and special talents.

All letters to St. Nicholas are distributed among residents of Ivano-Frankivsk and the oblast from the office of the Maltese Aid Service at 1 Lesya Ukrayinka St. Here one can get a letter as well as detailed information on how best to fulfill a child’s dream.

“They don’t have to be very expensive gifts; it is better to buy something that you think would be useful. We also encourage people to write a few nice words to the child as a response from St. Nicholas,” says Roman Yaruchyk.

Plenty of time is provided for the preparation of a gift. The wrapped gifts need to be brought to the Maltese Aid Service by December 9. On St. Nicholas Day during a special celebration every child from 20 orphanages and shelters will receive a personal gift from St. Nicholas.
