The OSCE's special representative in the trilateral contact group on Ukraine Martin Sajdik calls for the total observation of the Easter ceasefire in the Donbass area. The diplomat made the relevant statement after negotiations of the trilateral contact group on Ukraine in Minsk on 4 April, BelTA has learned.

Martin Sajdik thanked all parties for efforts to enforce the Easter ceasefire. “Thanks to these efforts the number of ceasefire violations has dropped considerably since 30 March. However, full silence during the Roman Catholic and Protestant Easter was not secured,” stated the diplomat. He urged the sides to do their best and fully observe the ceasefire regime in the run-up to the Orthodox Easter and after it. He reminded that the Easter period lasts 40 days.

The previous week the trilateral contact group on Ukraine and representatives of certain parts of Donetsk Oblast and Lugansk Oblast passed a statement on adherence to the ceasefire regime as from 30 March on the occasion of the Easter celebration. Martin Sajdik stressed that the Normandy Four leaders had welcomed that statement.
