The Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, Patriarch Sviatoslav, called on the parishioners of the church in Chernivtsi to pray for the Orthodox brothers on the eve of the Unification Council. He said this on December 9 after the Liturgy at the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Blessed Theotokos.

The Head of the UGCC said that next week there will be a special event in the life of Orthodox brethren for which Greek Catholics also have to pray.

"Next week, on Saturday, our Ukrainian Orthodox brothers will hold the Unification Council. Although we as Greek Catholics do not participate in the internal affairs of the Orthodox community of Ukraine, we care about how our brothers live. We promised to pray for them, especially this week: pray for unity, for the blessing of God, for the gift of the Holy Spirit to this Unification Orthodox Ukrainian Council. I think they need it and will be very grateful for it. They will feel that the Greek Catholics are their kin brothers descending from the same baptismal font of the Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Volodymyr,” said His Beatitude Sviatoslav in his address in Chernivtsi.

In addition, the head of the UGCC urged Chernivtsi residents to pray for Ukraine, Ukrainian servicemen and -women, as well as for all prisoners.

“Pray for our prisoners of war, pray for the seamen, pray for those whom we do not remember, but they are tormented in Russian prisons, pray for their rescue and God's help,” said Patriarch Sviatoslav. It was reported by the Department of Information of the UGCC.
