Ukrainian Greek Catholics open a children orphanage in Poltava region

On 2-3 May, the celebrations were held to mark the consecration of children orphanage in the village of Demenky, Kobelyatsky district, Poltava region. The celebration began on Saturday after the evening, headed by Bishop Stephen (Menyok), Donetsk Exarchate of the UGCC.

Дім_милосердя.jpgAccording to the Information Department of the UGCC, after the prayer the solemn ceremony was held to greet the guests and to express gratitude to donors, as well as a concert with participation of the orphanage pupils, parishioners’ children and guests from Dneprodzerzhinsk.

 

On Sunday, Bishop Vasyl (Tuchapets), Exarch of Kharkiv, in concelebration with Bishop Stepan (Meniok) and numerous clergy performed the rite of blessing the orphanage and celebrated a Pontifical Liturgy.

Background: The monastery of the Sisters of Mercy has operated in Demenky since 2008 and now the nuns Magdalena Chuhaida and Paraskeva Melnychuk, take care of six children of school age. Currently, the repair of the orphanage is over, but a series of repairs are planned for its improvement.
