The celebration took place in an empty Church, without the participation of believers, because the quarantine restrictions in the Volyn region were eased only from June 1.

The priests of the Diocese of Lutsk came to pray for their pastor. A special guest was Bishop Matthew of Volodymyr-Volynsly and Turia of OCU.

In an interview with the media Volyn Monitor, when asked how Bishop Vitaly sees his life purpose, he replied: "I feel a vocation to the priesthood. I expected to become a parish priest, but I had to be a chancellor, a Seminary rector, and a bishop. However, these were tasks that the Church set for me, but basically, this is the vocation of a priest of the Roman Catholic Church."

Bishop Vitaly Skomarovsky was ordained to the priesthood at the age of 27 in Riga, on May 27, 1990, along with 12 other candidates, in particular, four deacons from Ukraine. Bishop William Nyuksha conducted the ordination.

In 1990-1991, Vitaly Skomarovsky served as a vicar in Berdychiv, in 1991-1992 as a Bishop's Secretary and Vicar in Zhytomyr, and 1992-1995 as a parish rector in Sumy. In 1995, Fr Vitaly was appointed Chancellor of the diocesan Curia in Zhytomyr, and in 1998 – rector of the Zhytomyr Cathedral of Saint Sophia. In 2000-2002, he was Vice-Rector of the Higher Theological Seminary in Vorzel, from 2002 to 2011, he served as its rector.

On April 7, 2003, Pope John Paul II appointed Fr Vitaly to the office of auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of Kyiv-Zhytomyr. The episcopal consecration was performed on June 7, 2003, by Cardinal Marian Yavorsky, Metropolitan of Lviv. On April 12, 2014, Bishop Vitaly Skomarovsky was appointed ordinary bishop of the Diocese of Lutsk. The solemn ingress to the Cathedral of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul took place on May 17, 2014.

After the Mass, the May prayer service to the Blessed Virgin Mary was held.

In his welcoming speech after the Mass, Bishop Matthew expressed regret that the faithful could not come to pray for their pastor during this celebration but stressed that during such a quarantine ordeal, which we are currently experiencing, a special spiritual unity of the Church is realized through human hearts.
