Pope Benedict XVI appointed the new Nuncio on May 21, 2011. He replaced Archbishop Ivan Jurkovic. RISU's Ukrainian-language web page posted this story on November 16.

“With due respect for You, our respected brother Thomas E. Gullickson, Titular Archbishop Bomarzo is passing these Credentials from Us as a sign of his being vested with authority, as recently, he has been appointed Apostolic Nuncio in Ukraine as you are well aware of. The undeniable spiritual and intellectual virtues of Our Legate give us grounds to be absolutely confident that he will be able to maintain the cooperation of the Apostolic See with Ukraine in the most appropriate manner,” the website of the Lviv Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church quoted the pope.

The archbishop was born on August 14, 1950, in Sioux Falls (South Dakota, USA), and was ordained a priest on June 27, 1976.

On October 2, 2004, he was appointed titular Archbishop of Bomarzo and the same day, the apostolic nuncio in Trinidad and Tobago, Bahamas, Dominica, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia and S. Vincent and Grenadines.

On December 15, 2004, he was appointed apostolic nuncio in Antigua and Barbuda, Barbados, Jamaica, Guyana and Suriname. On December 20 of the same year he was appointed apostolic nuncio in Grenada, also in the Antilles.
