Patriarch Sviatoslav and new Apostolic Nuncio to Ukraine hold first meeting

On October 6, 2011, His Beatitude Sviatoslav (Shevchuk), head of the UGCC, and the new Apostolic Nuncio in Ukraine Archbishop Thomas Edward Gullickson held the meeting was held in Kyiv, at the Apostolic Nunciature in Ukraine.

Pope Benedict XVI appointed titular Archbishop Thomas Edward Bomarzo Gullickson the new Apostolic Nuncio to Ukraine on May 21, 2011. The archbishop had been Apostolic Nuncio in numerous countries in the Caribbean. Archbishop Gullickson is the fourth Apostolic Nuncio to Ukraine in the 19 years of diplomatic relations between the Apostolic Capital and Ukraine.

On September 23, the new Apostolic Nuncio arrived in Ukraine. Archbishop Thomas Edward Gullickson will perform his responsibilities after presents to his credentials to the President of Ukraine.

In the first meeting between UGCC patriarch and the new Apostolic Nuncio, the sides exchanged views on interdenominational situation in Ukraine. In addition, the parties discussed the state of church-state relations.

Patriarch Sviatoslav gave the new Apostolic Nuncio an icon of the Blessed John Paul II. He also invited Archbishop Gullickson to visit brotherly meeting of Roman and Greek Catholic bishops to be held in Lviv-Briukhovychi on October 26.
