The former Head of Ukraine's Foreign Intelligence Service and ex-official of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR), Valeriy Kondratiuk, disclosed information about Russian agents within the ranks of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate).

He stated that the Moscow Patriarchate is under the control of Russia, and Ukrainian intelligence agencies have repeatedly exposed agents and fire correctors among the priests of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate).

Kondratiuk emphasized that these agents within the religious organization are quite active and constitute a unit of the Federal Security Service (FSB) branch. He shared that his acquaintance, a general, claimed he would never visit the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra (Monastery) because he knows all the priests serving there by their operational pseudonyms. This situation, according to Kondratiuk, poses a threat to the national security of Ukraine.

He recalled a particular incident during the first armed confrontation in Sloviansk, where Ukrainian special forces clashed with people linked to terrorist Igor Girkin, who were from the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. During this confrontation, a Ukrainian operatives from the Poltava region was killed. The perpetrator, known by the nickname "Romashka" (Chamomile), was a bell ringer in the monastery.

Kondratiuk also expressed the importance of tolerance towards religion during wartime. He suggested that the question of the Moscow Patriarchate should not be brought up during the war. Instead, dealing with the individuals involved in the organization is crucial. While acknowledging that not everyone in the Moscow Patriarchate is an enemy, he emphasized that every country should build itself on its own religion and history.
