ROC legates actively work with Local Churches on Ukrainian issue

Head of the Moscow Patriarchate’s Administration for Institutions Abroad, Archbishop Antony (Sevriuk) of Vienna and Budapest visited Slovakia and the Czech Republic on November 14-15. Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeyev) of Volokalamsk, Chairman of the DECR, arrived in Cairo (Egypt), and on November 17th he visited the residence of the Patriarchate of Antioch in Syria.

Both hierarchs of the Russian Orthodox Church held a dialogue with the heads of the Church of Czech Lands and Slovakia and the Churches of Alexandria and Antioch on the issue of the granting of autocephaly to Ukraine by the Church of Constantinople. This is reported by "Religion in Ukraine" that cited the DECR’s website.

On the 14th of November, in Bratislava, the hierarch was received by His Beatitude Metropolitan Rastislav of the Czech Lands and Slovakia. The participants in the meeting discussed various items on the agenda of the inter-Orthodox relations. In particular, Archbishop Antony gave His Beatitude Metropolitan Rastislav detailed information about the actions of the Patriarchate of Constantinople in Ukraine that undermine the foundations of the conciliar structure of the Orthodox Church and about the Russian Orthodox Church’s reaction to these actions,” the DECR website reported.

Taking part in the meeting were also Archpriest Nikolai Lischenyuk, rector of the Russian Orthodox Church’s Representation in Karlovy Vary, and Archpriest Michal Švajko, secretary of the Prešov diocese of the Orthodox Church of the Czech Lands and Slovakia.

On the 15th of November 2018, Archbishop Antony visited Prague and met with Archbishop Michal of Prague. The archpastors exchanged opinions on the challenges facing the Orthodox Church today because of the unilateral attempts to revise the fundamental principles of the inter-Orthodox cooperation," the website of DECR reported.

They were joined in the meeting which took place at the administration of the Prague diocese by Archpriest Nikolai Lischenyuk.

On November 15, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokalamsk, Chairman of DECR of the Moscow Patriarchate, arrived in Cairo on a working visit to the Patriarchate of Alexandria. In the Church of St. Nicholas, the head of DECR bowed to the relics of the holy apostle and Evangelist Matthew. Metropolitan Hiarion had a meeting with Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and All Africa in the Patriarchal Residence, “during which a wide range of issues involving inter-church relations were discussed.”

The meeting was attended by the Patriarchal Epitrop of Cairo, Metropolitan Nicodemus of Memphis, Archpriest Igor Yakymchuk, the secretary of the DECR for Inter-Orthodox Relations, and Fr. Anatoliy Churyakov, an official of DECR.

On November 17, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokalamsk arrived in Syria to discuss the Ukrainian issue with Patriarch John X of Antioch and All the East.
