Our goal is USD 10,000 per year. This is enough to give us the chance to translate and edit news, interviews, and analytical articles, form reference materials on different church and religious organizations in Ukraine, monitor other news sources, and prepare our own articles. This is enough to sustain our present activity but not enough to fulfill our plans of future growth.
Calvary members heading to Ukraine for missionary work
September, 3 Camrosecanadian
Members of the Calvary Pentecostal Church will be heading to the Ukraine to do some missionary work.
Weston Voytechek is one of six team members who will be heading to Balaklava, located on the Crimean peninsula, to reach out to youth and adults during the mission.
The church has a five-year plan to work with the non-denominational church to promote Christianity.
"What we're trying to do is instill and support the Christian faith in there," said Voytechek, who leaves on Sept. 16.
The group hopes to reach out and work with the youth in the area through street ministry and school work.
"There's not a lot of stuff there that they have access to, as far as bibles and books," said Voytechek.
"There's a lot of poverty there. There's a lot of prostitution and drinking. They don't have hope. What we want to do is try and establish some hope and some care and get them to believe in themselves again."
The team will be in Balaklava for 10 days. While there are only six people that will be traveling to the town, Voytechek said the whole church is behind the mission.
"They support it financially, and also we do fundraisers."
One motive of the mission is to give back to the Ukraine. There were a lot of Christians from the Ukraine who immigrated to Canada in the 20th century.
"Because of the communist rule, (Christianity) went underground. With the freedom and fall of the Iron Curtain, there is more opportunity in there to give back what their people gave in immigrating to Canada," said Voytechek.
