Canadian Parliament Commends Ukraine's Council of Churches for Interdenominational Peace
The heads and authorized representatives of Ukrainian churches and religious organizations met with the Premier of Canada Stephen Harper on April 24, the Institute for Religious Freedom reported.
The head of the Canadian Parliament greeted the delegation of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations and marked its important mission aimed to promote interreligious agreement.
Prior to that, the House of Commons of Canada unanimously passed a statement to recognize the activity of metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky (1865–1944) during WWII an example “of devotion to the main human rights” as he rescued a few hundred Jewish children.
The delegation of the AUCCRO witnessed the approval of that historic document. The members of the Canadian Parliament stood up and greeted the heads of the Ukrainian denominations with applause expressing their appreciation of the example of interdenominational peace and agreement.
After the members of the delegation of the AUCCRO got acquainted with the work of the Canadian Parliament, they had a business lunch with the participation of a number of the members of the Parliament. The participants discussed Canadian-Ukrainian relations in the humanitarian field and relations between the Ukrainian state and Ukrainians abroad.
