Parliament has registered a resolution to mark Iosyp Slipyy’s anniversary nationwide
A specially designed draft resolution was brought to Parliament’s consideration to worthily mark the 125th birthday anniversary of Iosyp Slipyy, the Major Archbishop of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, which falls on February 17, Zbruc reports.
Adoption of the draft resolution will enable to mark the 125th birthday anniversary of Iosyp Slipyy – the man who became the bridge between the western and eastern Churches, who supported the restoration of Ukrainian statehood and cared about the development of Ukrainian culture and spirituality, the document goes.
The draft Regulation recommends the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine to set up an organization committee, to develop and adopt an action plan for the preparation, implementation and financing of festivities of the 125th anniversary of Archbishop Iosyp Slipyy, recommends the State Committee for Television and Broadcasting of Ukraine to organize thematic TV and radio programs devoted to the life and work of Iosyp Slipyy, and encourage the public media to cover the events that take place in connection with the celebration of his 125th anniversary.
The document plans to release and popularize the documented heritage of Iosyp Slipyy, hold conferences, round tables devoted to the life and work of Iosyp Slipyy on the basis of higher education, implement measures for preservation and restoration of objects related to the activities of Iosyp Slipyy, establish the commemorative plaques.
“His Beatitude Cardinal Iosyp Slipyy is a remarkable figure of Ukrainian history, who later became one of the favorite figures of contemporary writers, imprinted in the memory of literature and art. This man, the spiritual leader of Ukrainians, deserves a worthy remembrance, and our draft law, which aims to honor Iosyp Slipyy nationwide, pursues this very goal,” one of the document authors, MP from Ternopil Mykola Lyushnyak noted.
