10.12.2013, 15:31
The AUCCRO condemned the acts of violence and brutality committed against the peaceful demonstrators and journalists, as well as against law enforcement officers, who performed their duty.

The All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations (AUCCRO) calls on the believers of different religions and faiths to pray for peace and order, for an end to strife and enmity, for understanding and resolving the conflict. The AUCCRO also condemned the acts of violence and brutality committed against the peaceful demonstrators and journalists, as well as against law enforcement officers, who performed their duty, reads a statement released by the AUCCRO, the Institute for Religious Freedom reports.

“We call on the current government to guarantee constitutional rights and freedoms of the citizens, not to use force against peaceful assemblies, to take into account the demands of protesters, and also to conduct impartial investigations into the provocations and violent confrontations and to punish the perpetrators.

“We call on all the people of Ukraine, regardless of their political beliefs, to be wise and responsible, to refrain from violent and unlawful acts, and not to succumb to provocations.

“We urge the Ukrainian society, government, and the opposition start a dialogue and to search for a reasonable way out of the crisis. Remember, we are all part of a single nation, a single country. We cannot allow political opposition be the reason for the violation of the integrity of our country.

“We, the members of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations, authorized representatives of the religious communities of Ukraine, which is a significant and integral part of Ukrainian civil society, differ in our beliefs and worldviews, but we live and labor in the spirit of mutual understanding, respect, and peace. And therefore we call on all of you to have social and political understanding, mutual respect and peace for the good of our people.

“The All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations is ready to facilitate dialogue and do what is necessary for the reconciliation and restoration of stability in our country.”
