Two hundred and eighty-nine Ukrainian deputies voted for Bill 8711 on prohibition of homosexual propaganda in the first reading. The minimal number of votes needed for it to pass is 226, Korrespondent reported.

The Parliament is going to define that homosexuality is sexual relations between persons of the same sex.

The Parliament is to make alterations to the Law on Protection of Social Morality to envisage the prohibition of production and distribution of products propagating homosexuality.

Earlier, Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International called on the Ukrainian Parliament to reject the bill.

The Ukrainian churches and religious organizations have repeatedly declared their negative attitude toward the propaganda of homosexuality.
