On St. Nicholas Day, December 19, the main Christmas tree was opened at Festivalna square and the second regional New Year and Christmas festival began. A special highlight was the establishment of a religious borough “Christmas crib” for the first time in recent history of the city.
The building, erected in 1897, was the church of St. Anthony until 50's of the last century. Then the Soviets destroyed a part of it, including the Baroque spiers, opened there a cinema theatre, and in the 80's – an organ hall. Since Philharmonic is the municipal institution of the Regional Council, the Roman Catholics reached out to the council members to regain possession of the church.

A specially designed draft resolution was brought to Parliament’s consideration to worthily mark the 125th birthday anniversary of Iosyp Slipyy, the Major Archbishop of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, which falls on February 17, Zbruc reports.
On November 19, Ukraine’s Parliament Speaker Andriy Paruby during his visit to Turkey met with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew on the premises of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, the official website of the Verkhovna Rada reports.

The meeting of the historical and toponymical Commission of Odessa City Council, held on November 4, 2016, examined the appeal of NGO “Ukraine is me” on the establishment of a memorial sign – a symbol of destroyed churches and priests of Odessa shot by Communists.

The Committee on Culture and Spirituality recommended the Parliament to adopt in the first reading Bill 4511 on the special status of religious organizations having their governing centers in Russia as the aggressor State.
