Israeli Ambassador discussed forthcoming Hasidim pilgrimage to celebrate Rosh Hashanah in Uman

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Israel to Ukraine Elia Byelotserkovski discussed with local authorities of Uman this year Hasidic pilgrimage to the city to celebrate the Jewish New Year Rosh Hashanah.

UNIAN religion reports that according to the press service of Uman city council, today the Israeli delegation met with Acting Mayor Alexander Tsebriy. During the meeting, the issues concerning the reception of Hasidim pilgrims and celebration of the Jewish New Year in autumn 2015were being discussed.

In addition, on the day of mourning and memory of war victims in Ukraine, Tsebriy and Byelotserkovski laid flowers at the monument to Holocaust victims in Sukhyi Yar tract, where during the Second World War fascist invaders shot more than 25 thousandcivilians, most of which were Jews.

 As it was previously reported, in 2014 more than 20 thousandHasidic pilgrims arrived from 9 countries to celebrate the new year 5775 the Jews of Rosh Hashanah. In 2013, almost 30 thousandpilgrims from 16 countries, mainly from Israel met the New Year here.

Rabbi Nachman of Bratslav (1772-1810) is the founder of Bratslav Hasidism. He was buried in Uman in the Jewish cemetery. The tomb of Rabbi is one of the most revered shrines of the Hasidim, a place of annual mass pilgrimage.
