More than 8,000 Hasidim Already in Uman for Rosh Hashanah

For the celebration of the Jewish New Year Rosh Hashanah, 8,169 Hasidic pilgrims have already arrived to the city of Uman, in the Cherkasy region.

“As of 8 a.m., 8,169 pilgrims have arrived in Uman, 697 of them are children and four are women. They came from the following countries: Switzerland – 3, UK – 8, Germany – 42, France – 15, U.S. – 50, and the rest from Israel. Most pilgrims are arriving to Uman by bus from the international airports Borispol and Odesa,” said Ludmyla Polishchuk, the assistant chief of the Uman Ministry of Internal Affairs for public relations and media.

The celebration of the Jewish New Year Rosh Hashanah in Uman this fall is expected to gather about 24,000 pilgrims from 24 countries. During the pilgrimage, 400 policemen will maintain public order in Uman. This year's New Year celebration for the Hasidim will take place from September 4 to 5.
