KYIV – A 23-year-old lecturer of the Ostroh Academy National University (Ukraine) Mykhailo Yakubovych made the first full translation of the Holy Quran into Ukrainian, reported the Kyiv Post on June 22, 2010.

According to UKRINFORM, Mykhailo Yakubovych studied more than 1,000 sources and read more than 40 full comments to the Quran. The author also unified the terminology and made a glossary chapter in his book.

A text of the translation prepared by Mykhailo Yakubovych was approved for publishing by the Commission of the King Fahd Center located in Medina, Saudi Arabia. In the nearest future the Ukrainian-language version of the Quran will be published.

The book will consist of nearly 700 pages and will be supplemented with audiotape with surahs both in Ukrainian and Arabic.

The Quran in Ukrainian will be placed in the collection of Holy Qurans in foreign languages in Medina. Mykhailo Yakubovych also plans to translate the Prophet Mohammad's Hadith and works of ancient Arabic travelers and philosophers into Ukrainian, UKRINFORM reports.

The Holy Quran was translated into English over 100 times, into Russian – about 10 times. There was no full translation of the Quran into Ukrainian. The first attempt to translate the Quran into Ukrainian was made in 1907 by an outstanding Ukrainian scientist-orientalist Agatangel Krysmkyi.
