On January 12, 2017, with the blessing of Patriarch Filaret of the Kyiv Patriarchate, members of the commission for dialogue with the Ecumenical Patriarchate met with representative members of the Holy Synod and the Holy Patriarchate of Constantinople at the official residence of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew at the Phanar (Istanbul, Turkey).

Along with the three new monasteries, a total of 200 faithful took monastic vows in 2016. The Ukrainian Orthodox Church now totals 4,318 monastics.

According to Bible tradition, on Christmas day the Virgin Mary gave birth to Jesus Christ. The Son of God was born in a manger in Bethlehem. The angels announced to the shepherds the news of the birth of the Son of God.
In his Christmas message Pope Francis referred to Ukraine:“Peace to men and women who are still suffering the effects of conflict in eastern Ukraine, to whichwe all desire to bring relief to the population and to fulfill the obligations undertaken.”

Hieromonk Nicodemus (Kovalyov), rector of Holy Protection Church in Zhmerynka was consecratedas Bishop of Kyiv and All Ukraine of the Russian Orthodox Old Believer Church on December 11, at the Holy Protection Cathedral at Rohozhske cemetery in Moscow.

On Thursday December 8, Ukrainian MPs supported the submission of the Prosecutor General Yurii Lutsenko to sanction the prosecution of MP Vadim Novinsky in the case of unlawful imprisonment of the personal secretary of the late Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Metropolitan Volodymyr (Sabodan) - Archbishop Oleksandr (Drabynko).

On December 1, 2016, Patriarch of Kyiv and All Rus-Ukraine Filaret and Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church Patriarch Sviatoslav took part in the National Forum "Transformation of Ukraine", hosted by the Congress Centre “Ukrainian House.”
On November 27-28, Patriarch Filaret of Kyiv and All Rus Ukraine visited Poltava. His visit was to mark the day of remembrance of St. Paisius Velichkovsky.

If Patriarch Kirill fails to keep hold of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Russia will turn into Muscovy. Myroslav Marynovych, vice-rector of the Ukrainian Catholic University in Lviv was reported as saying this by Gazeta.ua.

The Russian Orthodox Church (ROC) will never agree to independence of the Ukrainian Church of the Moscow Patriarchate, said Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia on Monday, at a ceremonial act in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior on the occasion of his 70th anniversary with the participation of the heads and representatives of all 15 Local Churches, RIA Novosti reported.
On November 19, Ukraine’s Parliament Speaker Andriy Paruby during his visit to Turkey met with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew on the premises of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, the official website of the Verkhovna Rada reports.
The exhibits show a much wider period of the Armenian Church in Lviv. For example, there are Armenian manuscripts and printed books of XVII-XIX centuries

On November 7, Patriarch Filaret accompanied by archpriest Oleksandr Trofumliyk, a member of the Supreme Church Council of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church Kyiv Patriarchate, arrived in South Bound Brook.
The meeting of the historical and toponymical Commission of Odessa City Council, held on November 4, 2016, examined the appeal of NGO “Ukraine is me” on the establishment of a memorial sign – a symbol of destroyed churches and priests of Odessa shot by Communists.

A century old history of St. Volodymyr Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago, IL became alive over the last weekend of October 2016. Hundreds of parishioners, visitors and local neighbors joined each other in celebration of exactly 100 years of spiritual ministry of the cathedral community in the Metropolitan Chicago area.
