Council_Churches_Kyiv-w.jpgThe meeting of the delegation of the World Council of Churches with the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations was held March 18, 2015 in the conference hall of Khreschatyk Hotel, according to the Institute of Religious Freedom.

 

During the meeting the delegations of WCC and AUCCRO discussed possible ways of cooperation between the two inter-confessional organizations. A separate issue of discussion was the joint efforts of denominations aimed at overcoming the armed conflict in Ukraine and its consequences.

 

The World Council of Churches was represented by: Archbishop Anders Wejryd (Church of Sweden, WCC President for Europe), Rev. Karin van den Broeke (Reformed Church in the Netherlands), Bishop Jan Janssen (Evangelical Church in Germany), Mr. Peter Prove (Director of the WCC Commission on International Affairs), Archpriest Daniel Buda (Romanian Orthodox Church).  

 

At the same time the rest of the delegation headed by General Secretary of the WCC Rev. Dr. Olav Fykse Tveit met at the Apostolic Nunciature in Ukraine with the Apostolic Nuncio in Ukraine, His Excellency Archbishop Thomas Edward Gullickson and Head of the Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine Metropolitan Mieczysław Mokrzycki..

 

Representatives of the World Council of Churches expressed readiness to support any peacekeeping initiatives of Ukrainian denominations. Church hierarchs emphasized that they came to Ukraine in order to understand how to provide the most efficient support

According to the IRS report, the guests were pleasantly surprised by the level of positive cooperation of Ukrainian denominations under the auspices of the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations.
