Today the 7th Ecumenical Social Week “Responsibility of a Christian in Modern Society” started in Lviv.

"The topic of the VII ESW was not chosen accidentally. Ukraine after the removal of its authoritarian and predatory government is going through a difficult time. Thousands Ukrainian people defend their sovereignty and independence of the state with arms. In the difficult time of forming a new society arises a necessity for every Ukrainian to realise his responsibility to God, country and other citizens. The purpose of the VII ESW is to declare the principle of shared responsibility for the future of the country between the society and its elected government," note the organizers.

ESW, initiated by the Institute of Ecumenical Studies of the Ukrainian Catholic University, is a platform where representatives of civil society, religious institutions, mass media, politicians, educators and young people can openly discuss the most painful problems of society. ESW is traditionally organized with the assistance of Ukrainian Catholic University, the Lviv PolytechnicNational University, Lviv Regional State Administration, Lviv Regional Council and Lviv City Council.

Ecumenical Social Week is to be held in Lviv from September 29 to October 4, 2014.
