It is important to feel that we are not members of a certain tragedy. We know that this contradiction between the blind fate and human freedom is the gist of Greek tragedy. It is absolutely not the case now. We are heroes building our future. But we need to do it only in God and with Him, so that the Nativity of our Savior saved us from new dangers, so that this Nativity became a driving and creative force behind the being of our people.

Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church Patriarch Sviatoslav said it on Sunday during a sermon to the faithful in the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ.

The preacher said that on Sunday after Christmas we remember King David, who is the best example of flourishing freedom in the history of the Israeli people. We celebrate the memory of Joseph the Betrothed, who saved the holy family history and made the history of the Holy Family. As well as the first bishop of Jerusalem Jacob. “Their memory,” the head of the church believes, “is now an invitation for everyone of us to become masters of our own history, cooperate with the God in all that we call the “salvation history” which is the story of man’s liberation, search for his dignity, i.e of a man who finds his true freedom in God. For where there is no God, there is slavery. Only in God and with God mankind can be free and preserve their dignity.”

In his view, biblical prophecies move the souls of Ukrainians in a very special way. “Once again it seems, the Patriarch says, that our people, our country ceases to be an actor of international relations, and becomes the object of bidding, negotiation ... Ukrainian people, who spoiled the politicians’ cards in the Revolution of Dignity, came again onto the stage of world history, now have to respond to the call for freedom, which it can get and maintain only together with the Newborn Savior.”

The patriarch urges the faithful to reflect on the fact that we as a people of God are called to re-open again the history of our own existence, our own people. As the people who do not know their history have no future.

“So, let us pray to our Newborn Savior so that He stayed with us and that He came in and took over the history of the Ukrainian nation and its being. May we build our future together with Him, leaving aside fear, but with great faith, hope and love in our own God-given land "- asked the patriarch. It was reported by the Information Department of the UGCC.
